Museums at Night with Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Museums at Night is Culture24‘s (www.culture24.org.uk) festival of inspiring after-hours cultural events at museums, galleries and heritage sites across the UK.

As one of the world’s leading open-air galleries, don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) after hours on Saturday 17 May from 5pm, when the Park will open its doors to celebrate Museums at Night.

The evening will give visitors a chance to watch the sunset over the 18th century Bretton Estate, see sculptures illuminated in the landscape; take a candlelit tour; and much more.

Immense cedar sculptures – by highly acclaimed American artist Ursula von Rydingsvard – will loom in the darkness, from beyond YSP’s Underground Gallery, whilst illuminated pieces will sparkle in the dusk light. Join the after hours Curator-led Tour of von Rydingsvard’s major exhibition to find out more about the artist’s work and inspirations.

Whilst exploring the Park, you can pay a late night visit to Roger Hiorns’ spectacular installation Seizure, 2008/2013 and marvel at the sparkling blue environment of copper sulphate crystals. Then take a trip down to James Turrell’s Deer Shelter Skyspace, 2006, for Simply Sitting at Sunset, where you’ll experience a heightened vision of the changing sky at sunset.

Join the guided Heritage Twilight Walk and explore the rich history of the YSP landscape. Experienced heritage guides will take visitors around the Park’s historic lakes and woodland to discover its interesting follies and features by candlelight.

If that’s not enough, limited spaces are available to embark on The Sculpture Safari. Join YSP’s guide for an adventure across the YSP grounds in the safari Land Rover.

There will be free parking from 5pm and a late-night shopping offer, giving 10% off at the award-winning YSP Shop. Visitors can also indulge in a delicious evening meal at the YSP Restaurant, whilst taking in the breath-taking views over the Country Park, as night draws in.
