Dirty Dancing Comes to Leeds

Dirty Dancing coming to Leeds Grand Theatre. Production Image (10)

From a classic film to an extensive worldwide stage tour, Dirty Dancing is coming soon to Leeds Grand Theatre. Thirty years since Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey hit our screens, original screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein brings back the beloved story, and then some! Promising bonus scenes and a whole new cast, this latest production from director Federico Bellone is not to be missed.

Most of us will be able to recite the film’s iconic lines, from ‘I carried a watermelon’ to ‘Nobody puts Baby in a corner’, but for those less clued up: The story takes us to New York’s Catskill Mountains in the summer of 1963. Frances “Baby” Houseman is on a family holiday in a resort that offers a variety of wholesome activities. But fiercely independent Baby finds herself behind the scenes of this family-friendly resort, where the staff party all night, the emotions are raw and the dancing is dirty. Alongside the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle, Baby learns to dance and to love. The pair get caught up in a trying situation and Baby is forced to grow up fast. This show promises passion, drama and dance, in a story of worlds colliding.

Featuring countless hit songs, including “Hungry Eyes”, “Hey Baby”, “Do You Love Me?” and the iconic “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life”, this production will blend the movie’s classic soundtrack with live cast performances from an embedded band. It’s the chance to get closer to the action than any cinema screen will allow!

Showing at Leeds Grand Theatre from 24th-29th July, this was the fastest selling show in West End history, so be sure to grab your tickets here.
