Exclusive First Play: Augury by Vipertime

By March 18, 2019

Music. Leeds.

Ancient Roman seers sought omens in birds, interpreting their flight through the sky as signs from the gods of an auspicious future. They called it augury.

Vipertime, seeking their omens in the Ethio-jazz of Mulatu Astatke, interpreted those sounds through sixties garage and psych to make their own stamp on the future. They’re calling the result Augury, and it’s the first single and first track from their upcoming LP, Shakedown.

Vipertime are Ben Powling, Matías Reed, Charlie Grimwood and Luke Reddin-Williams, all players from Roller Trio, Mansion of Snakes, WorldService Project, KOG & The Zongo Brigade and Wandering Monster, who came together in early 2018 to free up the house parties in their native Leeds.

Debut EP All Our Heroes Are Dead EP was played on BBC 3, Worldwide FM and BBC Introducing, and Vipertime’s riff heavy battery of drums, percussion, bass and sax has now been recorded, mixed and mastered by Will Jackson at Eiger Studios onto their debut LP.

Augury is the first single from the album, with a video by Olivia Sofia Ferrara, ahead of Shakedown’s release on vinyl and digitally on 28th May 2019.

Vipertime are launching Augury at Chunk in Leeds on 4th April — the Facebook event is here and tickets are here.
